The Midwest United Juggalos - Artist of the week Interview

When did you start producing music and what were your influences to do so?

Around 2003 is when I first got really into it. 2004 I was getting my first placements on albums and started getting bigger people on my tracks.
My influences from Detroit were producers such as Mike E. Clark, R.O.C. and Esham. Outside of Michigan it was Timbo and other odd ball producers that thought/think outside the box with there beats, mixing and overall production.
These days its I really enjoy Seven who is continuously killing tracks and probably the best producer in the game right now!

When did you start listening to the wicked shit and what was the first wicked that you heard?

Lots of Esham was being played when I was real young but when it comes to ICP/Psychopathic in 1996 a year or so after Riddle Box was released I heard some of that and then all of The Great Milenko the following year (1997).

What is your favorite piece of equipment?

I like the sound and thinkness of hardware a lot. I'm not really a software producer but do use some software when or where needed. I enjoy unique synths. Vintage and anolog is nice as I enjoy using synths that many are not using is at this time. Also the Triton Extreme, Microkorg, Proteus 2000 and Mo Phatt is what I'm using a lot these days. They have done me well.

I will use whatever is around or available where I'm at if not at the home studio. I can adapt well and like to learn. If I don't know how to use something I will take the time to understand it and incorporate it in my tracks if it fits what I'm working on.

What was the biggest struggle that you had to overcome in your career?

Making myself stand out from the many many other producers trying to come up in the game. Its not easy when everyone these days raps or make beats. You have to do something to prove your better or at least worth more then the next person. Promotion, hustle and talent all plays a huge role. I guess its also knowing the right people and networking that will get you to the top of the underground. Nothing is quick in this business. Everything takes time, from developing your skill to getting in contact or in touch with the correct people to help you excel and surpass others.

What has your experiences working with psychopathic been like?

I'm very grateful they gave me a chance and have helped me. I'm honored I had/have the chance to do work with some of the best and continue to be happy that people like them constantly ask me to help with projects.

Thanks to Shaggy 2 Dope for everything he has done and shout out to his younger brother Tre Pound for everything he did to help me in my career.

Who is one artist you haven't had the chance to work with that you would like to?

I hate trying to think of one artist so I will list a bunch.Atmosphere
Jack White
XV
ABK
Aesop Rock
Eminem
Brotha Lynch Hung
Cage
Korn (Jonathan Davis)
Ill BillVinnie Paz

Who in your opinion is putting out the best or most original music today?

Nothing is being done that hasn't been done. Everyone can try to be original but every movement is based off a past movement of some sort in some way. I like some of Odd Future (OFWGKTA) but I think I like the movement and craziness of them more so than the music.

I am happy young people can get money and shine in the mainstream by being themselves. Props to artists like Tech N9ne that still do underground music and find a way to fit in the radio spotlight without completely selling out.

What advice would you have for those just beginning to make beats/starting out in the underground scene?
The industry is constantly changing and when I was younger everything was different. These days its more about trying to stand out over the internet and compete with millions of others trying to do the same thing as yourself.. blow up off music.
If you be yourself, work on your talents and continue to believe then everything will turn out wonderful. Push yourself hard to get to where you want to be and even if you don't in return become rich or popular than at least you tried. In the end that's what matters. Enjoy your life, have fun and do the absolute best you can!

Who has been your favorite act/group to work with, or favorite project that you have done?
Anything to do with Tre Pound, SPP, Chop Shop or Shaggy 2 Dope. Without those people I wouldn't have got as far as I have. Thankfully some things worked out well and helped me grow to be the producer I am now. T.O.N.E-z and so many others also helped me develop my skills and step my game up.
There are way to many projects and tracks to mention but pretty much anyone I have worked with is my favorite. I enjoy music so much and as long as I am working on something I am loving life and making new favorite tracks.

What is your all time favorite psychopathic release?
There is not one specific album. Here are a few:
Twiztid- Mostasteless
Dark Lotus- Tales from the Lotus Pod (og)
ICP- Riddlebox or Great Milenko
Blaze- 1 Less G N Da Hood
ABK- Hatchet Warrior
I really enjoy all the Psychopathic Rydas albums (Boondox killed it on the most recent)

Whos your favorite Horror Director/Film?
Tobe Hooper
John Carpenter
Alfred Hitchcock
George Romero
Wes Craven
Sam Raimi

If you could have one retired or dead musician/group come back, who would it be and why?
Rap- ODB
Pop- Michael Jackson
Rock- Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
No reasons need to be given. They are all amazing artists in my opinion. I could sit here all day and explain them and others that I also wish could magically come back.
So much greatness has been lost and its terrible we lost so much talent and a lot of it at a very young age. I'm ecstatic there music will at least live on.

Any upcoming releases or projects that you would like to plug?
Lots of new music. I don't want to speak on my works much because what I hate more than anything is when artists talk about projects that never go down. When projects are locked in 100 percent and ready then I will share but right now I have just been doing production for multiple people and a wide variety of styles and types of music. I like to keep things original and unique. I keep trying different genres and expanding my skills to new levels of greatness.

If you could do one thing differently in your music what would it be?
I wouldn't change a thing. Simple as that! Everything happens for a reason.

What does the future hold for Stir Crazy?
I just hope to keep making music as long as I can. I want to become a underground Detroit legend of production. I have been called a legend multiple times BUT that word is and should only be used for the real greats.
People like Mike E. Clark, ROC, Esham and the like are Detroit production legends.. not me... yet.

Enough questions, now I'm just gonna let you talk about anything you wanna talk about or anything else you would like the MUJ members to know?

I want to thank you for your time. I really appreciate it. To the MUJ members... thanks for reading this. I have a lot of respect for the site and have enjoyed it. I'm grateful for everyones time. Thanks!!
